Subprocessors

Third-party services that process data on behalf of SpellingJoy.

SpellingJoy uses the following subprocessors. The first group serves the spelling practice service at spellingjoy.com, which is covered by our Student Data Privacy Agreement; each of those is bound by a Data Processing Agreement requiring data protections no less stringent than our own commitments under that agreement. The second group serves SpellingJoy ELA, our separate homeschool product, which is not part of any district agreement and processes no classroom or roster data.

Spelling practice service (covered by the Student Data Privacy Agreement)

Supabase

United States (AWS us-east-1, Virginia)
Purpose: Database hosting and authentication
Data processed: Student names, practice scores, teacher accounts, class data

Vercel

United States (primary edge network)
Purpose: Application hosting and content delivery
Data processed: HTTP requests containing application data in transit

Anthropic

United States
Purpose: AI teaching assistant (Joy)
Data processed: Teacher chat messages; student first names and last initials when teachers ask about their students

Resend

United States
Purpose: Email delivery for teacher communications
Data processed: Teacher email addresses and names (no student data)

Clever Inc.

United States
Purpose: SSO and limited rostering data transfer
Data processed: Student first name, last initial, grade level; teacher name and email

Google LLC (Google Analytics)

United States
Purpose: Website analytics for the public marketing pages
Data processed: Page views, device and approximate location, derived from IP. Not loaded on student pages. No cookie or identifier is stored unless a visitor accepts cookies.

OpenAI

Purpose: Text-to-speech for spelling words and practice sentences
Data processed: The word or sentence to be spoken. No student, teacher or account data is sent.

SpellingJoy ELA — homeschool product (not covered by district agreements)

Stripe

United States
Purpose: Subscription payments for the homeschool product
Data processed: Parent name, email and payment details. Card details go to Stripe directly and are never held by SpellingJoy.

ElevenLabs

Purpose: Narration voice for ELA lessons
Data processed: Lesson text to be spoken. No child or account data is sent.

Cloudflare

United States
Purpose: Object storage for generated lesson images
Data processed: Lesson artwork only. No personal data.

Lemon Squeezy

United States
Purpose: Legacy payment processing for course purchases
Data processed: Purchaser name, email and order records. No longer used for new checkouts; retained so existing customers keep access to what they bought.

Changes to this list

SpellingJoy will update this page when subprocessors are added or removed. School districts with an active Data Privacy Agreement will be notified of material changes per the terms of their agreement.
