How a week works

Monday list, Friday test, practice in between.

A teacher assigns the week's words: her own, a photo of the school list, or a list from the school library. Students practice with a spelling test on any device. The teacher sees who is ready for Friday.

1

Monday

The teacher assigns the list. Two minutes.

2

Tuesday to Thursday

Students practice at school or at home, tiles or keyboard, audio read by Joy.

3

Any day

Printable worksheets and a printable test from the same list.

4

Friday

The teacher sees who is ready and which words need one more look.

What every teacher gets

Classroom spelling practice stays free. The license adds the school layer.

  • Shared school library

A weekly list for every grade, for the whole year, on day one. Teachers use a list as is, edit it, or keep their own words.
  • Every printable pack in our library

Handwriting, phonics, sight words, spelling activities for any list, Color by Word K to 6, and every new pack during the term.
  • Guided onboarding and priority support

A short session for your staff, and answers from the founder within two business days, fixes included.
What a teacher sees about one student: every assignment and its score

For the principal

No teacher-level activity, no class rankings, no logins per teacher.

The school sees the building and the grades. Teachers see their own classes. The admin view is for rollout, the library and one honest report a month.

  • School admin view

Which teachers have joined, the shared library, school settings, an invite link for new staff.
  • Monthly report by grade

Active students, practice sessions, patterns practiced, students who need extra practice as a count, and a board-ready paragraph.
  • Nothing per teacher

Cohorts under ten students are merged. Joy, the teacher assistant, stays out of the admin view.

Questions from schools

What principals and district staff ask us

Everything you need to know about SpellingJoy.

See all questions
Do our teachers have to stop using the free version?

No. Classroom spelling practice stays free for every teacher. The school license adds the school layer on top: a shared library, all teaching resources, a school admin view, a monthly report and guided onboarding.

How do students get in? We do not want student email accounts.

Students join a class with a class code or with printable login cards. No student email addresses are needed, and students appear in the app as first name and last initial.

Do you work with Clever, Google Classroom or Canvas?

Teachers sign in with Google or email. SpellingJoy is also available as a teacher-installed app in the Clever Library, which imports a teacher's sections and students. Teachers can post their class link into Google Classroom. Roster and grade sync with Google Classroom or Canvas is not available today.

What does the principal or district see?

The school and the grades, never the individual teacher. The admin view shows which teachers have joined, the shared library and school settings. The monthly report shows active students, practice, patterns practiced and students who need extra practice, by grade, as counts. No teacher-level activity, no class rankings, no logins per teacher.

Are you available outside the United States?

Yes. Most of our schools are in the US, and the word lists follow US K-6 spelling patterns, but the license, the library and the resources work for any English-speaking school. Tell us your country in the form and we will confirm the details.

What paperwork can you provide?

A signed SDPC National Data Privacy Agreement (state exhibits on request), a W-9, our privacy policy and subprocessor list, and a quote your business office can attach to a purchase order. Purchasing and setup happen entirely by email.

How much does a school license cost?

Pricing is per school per year and covers every teacher and student in the building. Fill in the form and you will have a quote within two business days.
