Print the pages for offline work together; the answer key is for you.
Read the beach day passage out loud together first, then ask your child to listen for words where two vowels work as a team to make one sound, like the "ea" in beach or the "oa" in coast. As they read, point to a target word and ask, "Which two letters are teaming up here, and what sound do they make?" Strong answers will name the vowel pair (ai, ay, ee, ea, oa, ow) and connect it to the sound, such as "ee in green says /ee/" or "ay in day says /ay/." For the comprehension questions, look for answers that come straight from the story, like the class cleaning trash, seeing a seal, or planting seeds. If your child gets stuck, slide a finger under the word and cover everything except the vowel team so they can focus on just those two letters, then blend the sounds back together slowly. You can also build a quick sorting game with index cards using words from the passage—sail, day, feet, sea, boat, grow—and let your child group them by matching vowel teams.
Beach Day Cleanup
Today is beach day! Ms. Lee's team will clean the coast. We sail down the road in a green van. At the sea, we play and stay on the trail. We pick up trash and feet feel the sand. We see a seal! We plant seeds so beach grass can grow low by the dunes.
