Sit next to your child and read the passage about Peanut out loud together, then read it a second time and ask them to listen for "describing words" — words that tell us what something looks like or feels like. Say something like, "Let's find the words that tell us about Peanut," and have them point to words like soft, brown, tiny, round, fast, warm, quiet, fluffy, and cute. A strong answer connects the adjective to the noun it describes, for example, "soft tells us about his fur" or "tiny tells us about his feet." If your child gets stuck, reread one short sentence and ask, "What word tells us more about the fur?" — covering up the rest of the sentence with your finger can help them focus. You can also play a quick game where you say a noun like "tail" and they say a word from the story that describes it. Finish by asking your child to look at a picture of a hamster (or imagine Peanut) and tell you two describing words of their own.
