Offline - with you

Print the pages for offline work together; the answer key is for you.

Read the moving-day story together and act out the un- game: zip and unzip a jacket, roll and unroll a towel, tie and untie a shoe — each time saying both words so your child hears un- flip the meaning. Then play the -ful game: who in the family is helpful? What makes a room cheerful? What are we thankful for tonight? When you meet a new un- or -ful word in any book this week, pause and ask, "What is the little word inside? What does the word part do to it?" If your child invents words like unsleep or jumpful, celebrate the thinking and gently test it: "Hmm, do people say that one?" The skill is using word parts as clues, and playful wrong guesses mean the machine is running.

Moving Day

Today we move to a new home. Dad unlocks the blue door. We unpack the big boxes. I unzip my bag of toys. Mom is careful with the cups. I am helpful all day. We unroll my star rug. My new room looks cheerful. I untie the last string. At night, I am thankful.
