Offline - with you
Print the pages for offline work together; the answer key is for you.
Read the baking story together and listen for the glue words: and, but, or, so, because. At snack time, play the glue-word game out loud: "Do you want apples or crackers?" — your child answers and names the glue word. Try sentence stretching: your child says a short sentence like "I like dogs," and you ask them to stretch it with because — "I like dogs because they are soft." If they get stuck, offer two glue words and let them pick the one that sounds right; their ear is usually correct even before they can explain why. Baking something real together while using or and because is the perfect extension — and worth it for the buns.
Baking Day
Gran and I bake on Sunday. I want cake, but Gran picks buns. We mix eggs and milk. The pan is hot, so I step back. Gran smiles because I help a lot. Do we add jam or honey? I pick jam because it is sweet. The buns puff up, and they smell good. I am glad because Gran is here.
